SA: $17.6m to assist South Australians get jobs

ADELAIDE, Dec 3 AAP - A $17.6 million package to help 6,000 South Australians get jobs
was today announced by the state government.

The South Australia Works package was the most comprehensive overhaul of the state's
employment and training programs in more than a decade, SA Premier Mike Rann said.

The package would focus training and employment programs at a regional level and give
high priority to boosting education and job opportunities for young people, mature-aged
people seeking to retain and re-enter the work force and Aboriginal people, Mr Rann said.

"Our new approach will focus on building the skills of individuals rather than concentrating
on financial incentives for business," he said.

The new package would extend assistance to 1,000 more job seekers per year than the
previous employment and training program, he said.
