Vic: Rail trail to wind through bushfire-hit towns

MELBOURNE, April 28 AAP - Disused rail lines in Victoria's bushfire-ravaged communities
will be turned into walking and riding tracks under a $14.2 million project announced
by Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese.

The 134km Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail, once completed, will be used by recreational
walkers, cyclists, horse riders as well as providing access for emergency and maintenance
vehicles.

The Murrindindi, Mitchell and Mansfield shire councils proposed the project and will
contribute $1 million.

The project takes in communities such as Trawool, Yea, Molesworth, Cathkin, Alexandra,
Bonnie Doon, Maindample and Mansfield.

Mr Albanese said it was part of the government's plan to assist in the recovery of
disaster-hit regional economies.
